Home-Start Dundee runs a Preparation Course which is usually one session per week over a period of eight weeks, each session lasts for 3 hours.

This course is informal and fun and prepares volunteers for their role visiting families.

The topics covered include:

• An Introduction to Home-Start and why it is needed
• The needs of families
• What causes stress?
• Children’s Behaviour Issues
• Child Development
• Communication Skills
• Health and Safety
• The Role of the Social Worker
• Values and Attitudes
• Confidentiality
• Ethics of Home-Visiting
• Commitment

At the end of the course Volunteers receive a Certificate and have the opportunity to meet with existing volunteers.
